Two Views

These pix are inspired by a story by one of my faves. I don't want to say who or what since you may read the story at some point and I don't want to prejudice you. But meanwhile I wonder if there's anyone who could recognize the inspiration? Don't look at the file names if you don't want to know!

Old Fart Again?

I know, I know, Old Fart talking here... but look at these 2 covers. God help us if you could actually see what was going on like in the old days, right? Not saying that what's going on isn't kind of SILLY, mind you, but at least you can tell what it IS. Now in the new one, of course you can see Wonder Woman's whole ass since her body is twisted just for that reason... but what ever happened to the idea of something called  "composition"??? Criminey... How many characters are in that block of crap above Batman... and what is Batman DOING anyway? And check how Superman is riding on... on... I guess that might be Green Lantern's arm. Where the rest of him is I'm not sure. Also Wonder Woman's head is resting against Superman's back and his fist is tapping that big silver-green guy-thing on the head... Oy. I guess that must be "Super Amazo" with his million made up muscles. Feh.

From the Fest

From the Comic Fest, sitting around... Sold a batch of sketches which was kinda nice!
Thanks to all who bought one. This is inspired, obviously, by the Ray Bradbury story A Sound of Thunder.
Not the greatest I could do but it started as just a tyrannosaur sketch and evolved into what you see. If I had set out to draw something from that story I would probably have picked a low angle looking up with the hunter at the looming monster. Maybe that's why nobody bought it... HA! Will post other con sketches later!

Drawn at the Con

Sitting at the San Diego Comic Fest, I drew some monsters. Duh.
Here's one! Looks kinda Bill Stouty to me, although that was not a conscious aim.

DOOM FROM THE DEPTHS OF TIME

A painting by me and (mostly) by the great Adolf Schaller! He of COSMOS art and much stuff. Look him up at omnicosm.com , he's awesome! This was for a proposed comic of mine which never got done although the story was drawn by me and inked by the also great Mike Van Cleave! I re-did it in one of my MORBID books from Dark Horse as a "live action" comic several years back. Enough blab! Here it is.

Then and Later

I love the muted colors on the ancient Little Lulu comic cover by John Stanley. So tasty and appealing, no? And check out Crumb's Mr. Natural design- he clearly knew his stuff and derives a bit of inspiration from the "Stanley greatness-that-was"!

H and H Book Services!

I want to plug H and H Book Services in Glendale, Ca! They have a site: www.hhbookservices.com and they do just GREAT work. For artists and collectors of all kinds who want to have something bound up by top-notch old world craftsman types! Prices are reasonable... not super heap but reasonable for the high quality work they do. I have know these gents (Jack and John Papuchyan) for years and have had lots of things bound as books. They do a wide variety of bindings and even have leather covers with sculpted bas-relief effects if desired. I can't say enough about how great these guys are! Check out their site and/or give a call ((818) 242-2665) and see if they can do something for you! Read about them on YELP too. Nuff said!

Book 2!

Look for an announcement from TwoMorrows soon! Something like: "Got Monsters? We do! Monsters so huge, so powerful, so numerous they couldn't be contained in a single book! Pete Von Sholly's MONSTERBOOK volumes 1 and 2 are jammed with almost 400 pages of monster art, storyboards, comics, cartoons and dinosaurs and are replete with pithy commentary on all of the foregoing. Pete, a Disney Imagineer and career feature film storyboard artist, comics writer and artist, satiric magazine creator and all around bon vivant treats you to tons of behind the scenes material and dozens of misc. pieces which he does for the satisfaction of the muse and have no proper place in the world at large- until now!"

Moldy Oldie?

This was supposed to be published a while back but... well, let's just say it didn't work out and leave it at that! Anyway, there has been some renewed interest from another source so we shall see.... I'll let ya know. I still think it would be a riot.
